2022 Hopscotch Volunteer Training Notes

Please read first before signing up for your shift at bottom
of page

1.     Please always be friendly and helpful while volunteering.  You are the face of Hopscotch, and it is important to help guests have the best weekend possible.

2.     Drinking and drug use is prohibited during your shift.  If you are intoxicated or under the influence, you will be asked to leave your shift and forfeit your deposit.

3.     Be flexible on your shift.  You may be asked to help at another shift or venue. Shift times will remain the same, but we may need your help when needs arise.

4.     Respect your fellow volunteers, staff and the guests trying to get into shows.  It can seem hectic at times, but positive attitudes and cool heads will solve most issues.

  • Verbal abuse will not be tolerated!
  • No yelling.  Be loud if needed, but don’t yell at people
  • Address large groups (venue line) calmly and in chunks, not yelling to whole group.  The person at the end of the line will appreciate this!

5.     Be safe! You are not expected to be a bouncer.  If a person is being aggressive, step away and get a staff/security person immediately.  Keep the flow of people into venues at a reasonable pace. No rush to fill venues. If you feel unsafe, get Hopscotch staff or Security Staff immediately.

6.     You cannot wear your staff shirt into venues after/before your shift.  Please bring a change of shirt if you will be enjoying your off time at Hopscotch.  Wristbands will be provided.

7.     Parking.  It will be paid in all lots.  I ride my bike and suggest you try to as well.  There is free parking on the outskirts of downtown and the free Raleigh bus (R-Line) http://www.godowntownraleigh.com/get-around/r-line

Lock your bike up if you ride a bike!!!!!!!!

8.     Breaks:

Work with your teammates and manager to pick times to take 15-20 minute breaks.  Bring water or food if needed.  You can bring a bag.  We won’t have refrigeration or microwaves.

Please don’t eat at your shift.  Go take time and find a bench or table.  No rush.  Enjoy your time to yourself.

9.    Volunteer Shift Check In:

You must check in at the volunteer table in Wristband City (location TBD) before you go to the location of your assigned shift.  Failure to check in means that you may not get credit for your volunteer hours.

You will receive your volunteer staff shirt at check-in.

You may check in at any time the day of your volunteer shift, but the latest you may check in is 15 minutes before the scheduled start time of your shift.  Please be punctual!!!  If you are late it affects everyone on your shift.

10.    Wristband Check in and Deposit

You must check in at the volunteer table in Wristband City to get your wristband for each day of the festival that you are not volunteering.  Please bring photo ID when you check in.

There is a $50 deposit for each day of the festival you attend before your volunteer shift has been fulfilled.

Deposits must be in the form of a check or credit card.  NO CASH DEPOSITS!!!!

- Deposits will be shredded after your volunteer shift has been fulfilled.

Example 1:  If you are volunteering on Saturday and you would like to attend the festival on Thursday and Friday. You would check in at Wristband City Thursday with a $50 deposit for each day ($100 total) to get your wristband.

Example 2:  If you are volunteering on Friday and want to attend the festival on Thursday and Saturday you would check-in on Thursday with your $50 deposit, work your volunteer shift Friday, and then enjoy Saturday.

Example 3:  If you are volunteering Tuesday to Thursday, I will give you a wristband after your shift.  There is no need for a deposit.
